Major Arcana cards starting with Wheel of Fortune (10) and ending with The World (21) represent universal, life-changing experiences that humans encounter; events that challenge people and provide opportunities for personal growth.

Conversely, these experiences can affect us in harmful or limiting ways, depending on how we understand and cope with them. This is part one of a two-part series addressing the powerful messages housed in these eleven cards.

WHEEL OF FORTUNE: Nothing is certain. Everything changes. To cope with the ups and downs of life, recognize what is and is not under your control. Good luck, timing, and circumstances contribute to success; bad luck, accidents, and random events contribute to failure. Stay flexible and centered.

JUSTICE: Fairness is created, not expected; not a right. Determining fairness is complicated. Take in the big picture. Judge with compassion.

THE HANGED MAN: Still your mind, then contemplate life from as many perspectives as possible. Let go of preconceived notions. Reexamine habitual beliefs, attitudes, and practices. Who do you really want to become? DEATH: Transformation begins with sadness and letting go. To evolve, we must accept when a relationship, a lifestyle, or a chapter in our lives is over. By accepting endings, we can recreate ourselves and generate new life. TEMPERANCE: Recognize yourself as your own work of art, still in progress. Create a lifestyle that nourishes you first, then others, and the earth. Find your unique balance. Practice moderation.
