Mid-America Open Nights During the 2nd Annual DinoLites

Mid-America Science Museum has started adopting its dinosaurs to local non-profit organizations and businesses for its second annual Dinolites Christmas lighting display to be held on the museum’s Oaklawn Foundation DinoTrek.

Last year was a first for the museum and this new holiday lighting tradition happening here in Hot Springs. Just like last year, Hot Springs Mayor Pat McCabe will be flipping the ceremonial switch to turn on all the lights on the DinoTrek.

The official lighting ceremony for Dinolites will occur at 5 pm on Friday, November 29, and the lights will be on display to the public until Saturday, December 28. During this time, the museum will be open every Friday and Saturday evening from 5-7 pm.

Dinolites hosts community organizations who each select and decorate one of the many dinosaurs found on the museum’s Oaklawn Foundation DinoTrek. Guests of the museum have the opportunity to vote for their favorite displays throughout the month and the winning team will receive $500 during the museum’s annual Noon Year’s Eve celebration that will take place the final day of Dinolites on Saturday, December 28.

It’s a great way to celebrate the holidays at the museum and to kick off the weekend after Thanksgiving when everyone is out and about looking for fun activities to do during the winter break. Plus, it gives guests an opportunity to visit the museum after dark which doesn’t happen often unless they are here for an adult event like the museum’s Taste of the Holidays.

So far this year, participating businesses and organizations include Oaklawn Racing, Casino and Resort, It’s About You, LLC, Ouachita Behavioral Health and Wellness Clinic, Garland County Habitat for Humanity, Ouachita Children’s Center, The Practice Field Hot Springs, Superior Bathhouse Brewery, National Park College Innovation and Technology Center, and Hale Entertainment which is returning as the winner of last year’s first annual Dinolites.

The museum is located at 500 Mid-America Blvd, in Hot Springs. Be sure to like them on Facebook.

Mid-America Science Museum was established in 1979 as the state’s first Smithsonian Affiliate. Home of the World’s Largest Conical Tesla Coil, the museum houses over 100 hands on state-of-the-art science exhibits including the Bob Wheeler Science Skywalk, the Oaklawn Foundation Digital Dome Theater and more.
