Fun City Scholarships

The Fun City Chorus (FCC) proudly announces its scholarship winners for 2018, Ben Carey and Sarah-Marie Linneman. The chorus annually awards scholarships to graduating area seniors who plan to study music, and since 2013 has awarded over $15,000 in scholarships.

Ben Carey is winner of the Wayne Steward Memorial Scholarship, named in honor of Wayne Steward, the first director of the Fun City Chorus. Carey is a graduating senior at Jessieville High School and a lifetime musician and performer. He won the first place grand prize in Fun City’s “Road to Nashville” competition in 2015, allowing him to travel to Nashville to record one of his personal compositions with professional musicians. Carey is an accomplished singer and guitarist. He plans to attend the UCA to pursue a career in music education with aspirations to direct a chorus in addition to pursuing his performing career.

Sarah Marie Linneman is the winner of the Bill James Honorarium Scholarship. James is a charter member of the chorus and is still active. Linneman is a graduating senior at Lakeside High School, has been a member of the Lakeside Band Program for six years and spent four years as a flutist in their Symphonic Band.

Linneman successfully achieved placement in All-Region Band for 7 th to 12 th grade and made All-State Band each year in high school. Linneman has studied advanced flute and piano with Jackie Flowers, renowned flutist. She has been with the Hot Springs Flute Ensemble for the last six years. Linneman will attend Hendrix College in the fall where she will major in music and pre-pharmacy.

The Fun City Chorus is affiliated with the Barbershop Harmony Society and is extremely active in the Hot Springs area.
