AMP’D UP211: Life Beyond Reality TV – Cam Ayala’s New Purpose

Strength isn’t just about muscle, it’s about mindset. Cam Ayala is proof of that.

By Rick Bontkowski
Cam Ayala first captured public attention as a contestant on The Bachelorette, but his real story goes far beyond reality TV. Diagnosed with primary lymphedema at age 11, Cam endured years of medical complications, multiple surgeries, and ultimately, the amputation of his right leg.

But rather than letting this define him, he found a new purpose, one rooted in resilience, advocacy, and helping others embrace life beyond their perceived limitations.

Since his amputation, Cam has become a fierce advocate for the limb loss and lymphedema communities, using his platform to educate and inspire. His message isn’t just for amputees, it’s for anyone facing challenges, proving that struggle is universal, but so is the ability to rise above it. Cam’s journey reminds us that loss can lead to reinvention, and the way we adapt defines our strength.

Cam recently appeared on The AMP’D UP211 Podcast, where he shared his deeply personal experience of going from reality TV to reality check, learning to accept his limb loss, and, in turn, finding a greater mission. He spoke candidly about the importance of mental health, self-acceptance, and building a supportive community.

Now, whether he’s speaking at events, mentoring amputees, or breaking stereotypes in adaptive sports, Cam is walking a new path, one paved with purpose. His story is proof that life’s greatest challenges can become its most powerful transformations.

Because whether you’re an amputee or able-bodied, we all have obstacles, and like Cam Ayala, we all have the power to overcome them.
