Save the Date for The Sleeping Beauty Ballet

“The Sleeping Beauty” Ballet performances are scheduled for May 2025.

The Sleeping Beauty is, for many of us, a cherished childhood bedtime story. Its origins are unknown, as it was verbally passed down through the millennia and not published until the 17th Century. The Sleeping Beauty ballet was adapted from the 1697 Charles Perrault tale, “The Sleeping Beauty in the Wood.”

Tchaikovsky wrote the music, and his long-time collaborator, Marius Petipa, choreographed the dances. It was first presented at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg Russia on January 15, 1890, and the challenging choreography is as demanding as it is beautiful. Almost 135 years since it was first staged the ballet has become one of the world’s most popular.

The Sleeping Beauty is known for its many challenging roles. Several of the variations or steps involved for both the male and female members of the cast choreography are known for the technical challenges.

“I am hoping to test the skills of our own local talent and to motivate them to aspire to the level of technical prowess displayed by our guest performers,” shared Edmond Cooper, Executive Director of Hot Springs Children’s Dance Theatre Company (HSCDTC).

This spring the Hot Springs Children’s Dance Theatre Company will bring this incredible masterpiece of sound and movement to life. The young artists of the HSCDTC with the aid of some of the finest professional artists from around the country will present The Sleeping Beauty. Performance dates; 7:00 PM on May 16 and 17; a matinee at 1:00 PM on May 17. Preferred seating for Adults: $35. Regular Seating: $25. Preferred seating for Students: $25. Regular Seating: $15.
