Before Your Body Has to Shout

This Fall, Start Listening to the Little Things

By Dr. Kurt Larsen, DC, F.I.C.S.
Your body may be compensating long before it starts hurting—and you could be walking past the clues every day.

Fall puts everyone back on schedule. School, sports, meetings, and appointments return, but our own health often slips to the bottom of the list. Before adding another appointment, spend a week becoming curious about how your body moves.

Dr. Kurt’s Fall Body Check

Notice the little things. Do you consistently stand with more weight on one leg? Does one shoe wear differently? Do you turn your whole body instead of comfortably turning your neck? Do your first few steps after sitting feel different?

These observations do not diagnose a condition, but they can make you more aware of patterns in movement and comfort.

That curiosity is one reason Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT) captured my attention. My SOT journey began through the Sacro Occipital Research Society International (SORSI), where I progressed from student to instructor and had the privilege of serving as president. SOT founder Dr. Major Bertrand DeJarnette taught chiropractors to observe, test, document, and look for patterns—not simply chase symptoms.

SOT gives trained chiropractors a systematic way to evaluate musculoskeletal and postural findings involving the pelvis, spine, and cranium and compare those findings over time.

My fall challenge for you is simple: spend seven days listening to your body. Keep up with recommended health screenings, and consider whether this is the season to establish your own musculoskeletal baseline.

Your body is always communicating. Become curious enough to listen more closely every day today.

Dr. Kurt’s Takeaway

“Your body whispers long before it has to shout. The better you become at noticing the whispers, the better questions you can ask about your health.”
