Kids Can’t Get Enough of Hanamaki Mokuiku Playland

Families are exploring the fun at Mokuiku Playland.

Laughter, movement, and endless curiosity have filled the Garland County Library Auditorium as children experience Hanamaki Mokuiku Playland — an interactive wooden exhibit from our Sister City of Hanamaki, Japan. From racing down the Japanese lacquer slide to cooking in the play kitchen, spinning tops, stacking blocks, and relaxing in the wooden ball pit inspired by Hot Springs’ thermal waters, kids have embraced every corner of the Playland with pure joy.

What makes this exhibit especially meaningful is the way it weaves together Japanese craftsmanship and inspiration drawn from Hot Springs’ own natural beauty. Through the philosophy of Mokuiku — learning through wood and play — children are discovering creativity, cooperation, and cultural connection in a fun and memorable way.

Hot Springs Sister City extends sincere thanks to Yashiro Otomo and the team at Otomo Lumber Co., Ltd. for creating and sharing this remarkable exhibit with our community and to the Garland County Library for their partnership in making it accessible to families across our region.
