Stepping Out of Our Comfort Zone

By Peggy Lindsey
Comfort zones . . . we love them! They feel so good and safe, and we relax easily in their embrace. Just as with your favorite pair of slippers, you eventually have to step into something new.

Lately, we are all getting pushed out of comfort zones, and quite rapidly I might add! Changes are happening so fast it makes our heads spin. Perhaps we could all use a little shake-up – wake-up call. We get so used to things being a certain way, and when what is familiar is disrupted, we get triggered!

When you get your buttons pushed for whatever reason, instead of lashing back, take a moment to breathe. Tune into your heart space and ask yourself “Where is this reaction stemming from? How is this serving me? What opportunities are showing up for me to consider?”

We get stuck in belief systems, don’t we? The ones our parents, teachers, clergy, and coaches all handed down to us. We can easily jump on the bandwagon of “rightness” or “wrongness”, pointing fingers, and giving whoever will listen a piece of our mind. But, it’s time to truly know ourselves now. And we are being given a choice and a new chance to decide what is right for us.

Changes are coming . . . there’s no doubt about that. And we are now given the opportunity to stretch and to reach for something better and meaningful. Our old slippers are worn and tattered . . . and we step out of our comfort zone. Ready to create something fresh and new.
