Owner Shelley MacGibbon offers home and event décor, daily floral deliveries, local art, one-of-a-kind seasonal pieces, fresh centerpieces, and food/gift baskets.
Peek in the window as you pass Ouachita Avenue’s newest shop, The Mood Floral Co., and you’ll likely find owner Shelley MacGibbon intently crafting an arrangement best described as alternative charm. With a passion for eclectic design, she’s created a most calm and creative space in what was once a saloon.
A florist for 38 years in places like California and Texas, Shelley brings her creations – a mix of vintage and modern, gothic and elegance – to Hot Springs. Among her offerings: home and event décor, daily floral deliveries, local art, one-of-a-kind seasonal pieces, fresh centerpieces, and food/gift baskets.
The Mood has been expanding from a home-based business in the past few months, to the brick-and-mortar spot at 302 Ouachita. When asked why she chose this spot over one in the busier tourist district, Shelley had a lot to say.
“I love the weird vibes on Ouachita. The alternative and unusual aspect was a draw, but ultimately it is that quiet, peaceful shopping experience that the more intimate Sidetown is known for that factored into my decision.”
As her hands diligently crafted Halloween wreaths and clay dolls, she continued explaining “The shopkeepers on the Avenue are tight-knit, and the mixture of both tourists and locals is refreshing.”
Behind her, completed Thanksgiving arrangements lined the brick walls. But she is already thinking ahead to the holidays when she offers fresh greens and Christmas centerpieces.
Only a month in business, The Mood Floral Co. is already drawing a loyal clientele of those seeking to decorate their homes, events, parties, and porches with non-commercial art. And Shelley seeks to expand her offerings; she’s currently seeking artists adept in pottery for collaboration and showcase space.
