AR Village Quilt Show Features a Variety of Quilts

Nontraditional quilts created by Linda Hartmann are designed using special techniques and skills.

Come to the AR Village Quilt Show on Sept. 27 – 28 at the Benton Event Center in Benton and see both traditional and nontraditional quilts.

Linda Hartmann, a member of the Hot Springs Village Quilt Guild, Inc. (HSVQG), in Hot Springs Village doesn’t make traditional quilts. She won first place in both the Art Quilt and Modern Quilt categories of the AR Village Quilt Show in 2022.

Art quilts are created as pieces of art to be displayed instead of used functionally. These quilts may be in a variety of styles like landscape, pictorial, or collage. Modern quilts are identified by their characteristics: bold colors, expansive negative space, improvisational piecing, alternate gridwork, or traditional blocks reimagined. Instead of patterns, Hartmann incorporates techniques and skills she’s learned from classes, books, and programs to create an original design.

No Fishing, No Trespassing is a landscape quilt based on a photo of a vacant lot in her neighborhood.

Improv with Cindy G was inspired by Cindy Griselda’s Artful Improv workshop.

A Bird May Fly Away But We Can Still Remember Its Song, made by Linda Hartmann, was awarded Honorable Mention in the AR Village Quilt Show in 2019.

The AR Village Quilt Show, presented by the HSVQG will have over 200 quilts in 11 different styles. Show hours are 10 AM – 4 PM. Tickets are $10 and are available at the door. Visit ARVillageQuiltShow.com to learn more.

The HSV Quilt Guild, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. Its mission is to promote and preserve the artistry of quilt-making through education and charitable activities in the community. Visit HSVQuiltGuild.org to learn more about the guild.
