Following his Star, the Fool travels into the night. A full moon rises, dimly illuminating his path. He finds his way, loses it, finds it again. He passes between two ancient pillars, entering a strange land. He backs up two steps.
Once again, he is on familiar ground. He takes THREE steps forward into a mysterious land only glimpsed before. It is the land of poets and madmen, of genius and visions, of dreams…and nightmares. Fairy tale characters peek from secret places. Magical creatures lurk in hidden shadows. This place is alluring and terrifying.
“An alternate reality…not usually seen…fascinating… scary!” muses the Fool. Taking four steps backward, he is once again on that same familiar ground. He looks around, orienting himself. This ordinary world seems dull. He steps forward, into the world of the Moon. He suspends rational belief so that he may fully experience this world. Of one thing, he is certain: different rules apply.
Suddenly, his path becomes a river, pulling him into dark waters. A small boat rests upon a nearby shore. “Navigating this vast unknown in a boat might be my safest course,” intuits the Fool. He climbs in. The boat launches itself into the river. “No oars. No rudder,” he discovers. “I’ll just have to surrender and see where the current takes me.”
Swept away, the Fool gazes at the Moon, no longer afraid. “Where will you take me, mysterious beauty?” He falls asleep. Along the way, he dreams.
