Tinderbox Gallery will launch Room for Strangers, a new curatorial initiative bringing original contemporary artwork into hospitality spaces, this October at Dame Fortune’s Cottage Court in Hot Springs. The inaugural installation features three paintings by Texas artist George Zupp in Room 11. Rooted in the people, humor, and landscapes of Far West Texas, Zupp’s work moves between observation and mythology, finding tenderness, contradiction, and quiet theater within everyday life.
Room for Strangers invites overnight guests to encounter original artwork through the ordinary rhythms of a stay—not during a brief gallery visit, but while waking in the morning, returning at the end of the day, or turning out the light at night.
“Travel has taught me that we’re changed by the people and places we encounter along the way,” said Tinderbox Gallery founder and creative director Whitney Bishop. “Strangers carry a certain mystery, yet a hotel is one of the few places built expressly to welcome them. I wanted art to arrive in much the same way.”
The installation opens to the public during First Friday Gallery Walk on Friday, October 2, from 5–8 p.m. in Room 11 at Dame Fortune’s Cottage Court at 609 Park Avenue.
