AR Craft Guild Christmas Showcase Features Teresa Schlabach

“Hestia” – 18” x 18” – $350, mounted on a hand-painted, gallery-wrapped canvas.

The 48th Annual Arkansas Craft Guild Christmas Showcase will be held December 4 – 6 at the State Fairgrounds Hall of Industry, 2600 Howard Street, in Little Rock.

Featured artist Teresa Schlabach combines her photography and machine quilting to create unique dimensional art, focusing mainly on floral, landscape, and animal themes.

Her most recent piece, Hestia, named for the Greek Goddess of Fire, is a lily she grew herself. It was juried into two national competitions: Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Columbus, Ohio, as a semifinalist. She manipulated the photo, printed on satin, then stitched the details with her sewing machine. Together with her art partner, Michael Rowland, who hand-dyes all their fabrics, they create quilted collages based on their photographs and sketches.

Schlabach retired from the Alma Education and Arts Foundation and Skokos Performing Arts Center, where she served as Executive Director for 20 years. She, along with a handful of others, started the Foundation to present the Performing Arts and raise funds for local students to further their education at college and trade schools. To date, the Foundation has given over $2,000,000.

The Christmas Showcase hours are Friday 10 AM-6 PM, Saturday 9 AM-6 PM, and Sunday 10 AM-4 PM. Admission is $5 per person. Admission is free during Art After Dark, Friday 5 to 6 PM, and Early Bird Shopping, Saturday 9 to 10 AM. There is free parking, a cash bar, and concessions.

Member and guest artisans showcase these craft categories: jewelry, photography, glass, pottery, wood, painting, fiber, candles, honey, home décor, fashion accessories, and soaps.
