Major Arcana cards beginning with The Devil (XV) and ending with The World (XI) represent challenges to a person’s perceptions, beliefs, identity, and emotions. Mastery of each card brings a person closer to becoming more spiritually evolved. The risk is getting stuck in the card’s lesson for a long time.

THE DEVIL: Beneath the veil of civility, humans are animals, predators at that. When frightened, we become simple-minded and aggressive. Lust, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, pride, and gluttony can control our lives. Facing our carnal nature helps us predict human behavior better. Befriend your “inner Devil.” Channel it in positive directions.

THE TOWER: Relentless pursuit of material success, power, and status robs you of compassion and separates you from humanity. You fail as a human being, feared but never loved, sacrificing your soul in the process.

THE STAR: Follow your star, hopeful in the face of adversity. Be true to your values. Take action based on them and persevere.

THE MOON: Nothing is certain; everything is possible: discern what is probable. Some things cannot be understood, only experienced. Wisdom comes from many sources: intuition, symbols, and dreams. Accept mystery.

THE SUN: “It’s never too late to have a happy childhood.” Rediscover play, joy, and wonder as you love, protect, and nurture your own inner child. Create the best version of you going forward.

JUDGEMENT: Former versions of you rise up from your unconscious, floating away as you review your life with objectivity and compassion. Learn from past mistakes. Let go of shame, guilt, resentment, and regret.

THE WORLD: Having completed a Fool’s Journey, you are wiser, more realistic, more resilient, more accomplished, more open-minded, and more compassionate. You realize there is the THING that happens, and there is how YOU are with it. Travel your spiritual path with practical feet. Live in the world, not of it.
