Major Arcana cards Magician (card 1) through Hermit (card 9) represent patterns we encounter in others throughout our lives. Cards one through nine also reflect positive and negative patterns the Fool may develop through imitation. The Fool (card zero) represents you on your journey toward understanding and coping with other people. Positive patterns humans demonstrate include:
MAGICIAN: Someone talented and accomplished who recognizes your skills, talents, and abilities.
HIGH PRIESTESS: Someone who believes in you and understands your spirit, sees your good intentions.
EMPRESS: A maternal figure who nurtures you and wants you to become your best self.
EMPEROR: A father figure who shows you how to be responsible and take care of what is yours.
HIEROPHANT: A teacher of society’s rules who also teaches how to learn, how to get along with others.
LOVERS: People who teach you the art and craft of loving and being loved.
CHARIOT: People who show how to be a competent adult, especially regarding discipline and balance.
STRENGTH: People who know how to be both strong and kind and who value the life force in humans.
HERMIT: People who are comfortable being alone and have personal interests they enjoy by themselves.
A wise Fool chooses and learns from people who are good to him and good for him and avoids people who are bad to him and bad for him. The negative Shadow patterns of each of the above-described Major Arcana cards instruct the Fool who to stay away from and who not to imitate.
