Receiving a Tarot reading can be a very intimate experience, even when the reading takes place in public, like at a party or a Renaissance Festival.
Some seekers regularly consult the same Tarot reader. They often form a special bond, similar to the way clients in therapy connect with one counselor instead of another.
Other seekers value the point of view offered by their Tarot specialist: Wiccan, trauma-informed, astrological, Jungian, etc. Tarot readers themselves recommend finding a reader who provides a safe, supportive space to explore hidden aspects of yourself with compassion and curiosity.
Here are some suggestions from professional Tarot readers regarding qualities to look for in a reader.
- A good listener who can help you frame your question. Tarot cards respond to what the seeker wants to know. Clear queries get better answers.
- Connects to the seeker in a helpful, compassionate way; able to focus on the seeker to the exclusion of other distractions and tune into the seeker’s concerns.
- Experienced. It takes time, practice, and repetition to remember the basic meanings of all the Tarot cards. Readers who have in-depth experience with the cards provide readings based on both intuition and knowledge, the best combination to have.
- A good interpreter who can transform metaphysical concepts into clear, actionable guidance and practical insights.
- Experienced. A reader who can cope with the variety of difficult problems seekers may bring to the reading. Many Tarot readers have backgrounds in counseling, energy work, Jungian psychology, astrology, cultural anthropology, or spirituality. Any of these studies adds richness to the wisdom offered by a Tarot reader.
