An Abundance Mindset

By Peggy Lindsey
Abundance is everywhere! Nature bursts with plentitude . . . Niagara Falls, the Amazon Forest, the fish in the sea . . . And yet, many hold the mindset of lack.

In our society, people relate to the world as a place of lack and deprivation — where one must compete with others to survive — a “me versus them” world. But, is that really true, or do we somehow have it backwards?

Humans are given free will and free choice when born, and that includes abundant living. But we’re not taught that. When growing up, many heard “we can’t afford that”, “money doesn’t grow on trees”, or “there isn’t enough to go around”. So, this idea of scarcity got lodged within us and thus created a lack mentality.

Sometimes we’re blind to abundance. Look around the room you are in. For me, I see a bookcase filled with books I love, a bowl overflowing with beautiful apples, and all my angel figurines everywhere throughout my home! Then there are the intangibles . . . sunshine streaming through the window, the electricity that helps keep us cool, and the conversation and love shared among friends.

It boils down to what we choose to believe. Is our glass half empty or half full? Are we grateful for our blessings, or do we complain about what we don’t possess?

In her teachings, Mary Magdalene said, “If you only knew the endless source of abundance, you would never fear again of having not enough.” Let’s choose to notice the bounty in our lives and to truly believe our needs shall be met.
