“Jackson in the Garden”

by Susan Baker Chambers

We were just minding our own business when we heard some unmistakable growly-howly-whining.

Turns out Jackson—lounging in Susan’s garden—was feeling a little snubbed after Irma McLeod’s Black Flower landed the July cover. Equal time was in order. So, August is officially dedicated to the canine world, with none other than Jackson as our cover dawg.

From the looks of his pose, Jackson wasn’t about to flash a cheesy grin or bat some dopey doggy eyes at us. Oh no—this was serious. He gave us a proud side profile, strutting like a runway model, pretending he didn’t even notice us.

We hope you’ll enjoy this month with Jackson front and center. Drop by Justus Fine Art Gallery to greet him in person and take in the beautiful artwork on display. While you’re there, don’t forget to wish Dolores Justus a Happy 21st Gallery Anniversary, and join us in celebrating the 36th Anniversary of Gallery Walk!

We’re grateful to Jackson’s “mom,” Susan Baker Chambers, for sharing this bold, colorful artwork—and hats off to Erin Baber for stepping outside the box with this unusual-for-us cover design.

As we slither into the deep heat of August, we hope you find your perfect place to chill.

Happy Summer from The Springs Magazine team!
