Lake Catherine State Park Offers Exciting Workshops 

Explore all Lake Catherine State Park has to offer at one of the Winter Workshops. The Winter Workshops are a series of Saturday morning workshops throughout the winter months each held from 8 AM – Noon. Sharpen your skills or learn something new. These workshops are best suited for families with children 12 years or older and adults. You are encouraged to grab your crew to sign up for one or a few. 

Join the park crew on Saturdays in January: 

January 11: Winter Migration Birding Workshop 

At the turn of every season, the Mississippi Flyway and other river systems flood with migrating birds from across the world. And every winter season, Lake Catherine State Parks becomes a temporary home for some of these unique birds that travel every year. Join park staff for a morning filled with birding tips and tricks and for an adventure among the migratory birds. You may be surprised by all you discover so close to home!  

January 18: O.W.L.S. – Compass and GPS 

Join Lake Dardanelle State Park staff for O.W.L.S. (Outdoor Women Learning Skills). This program series is designed to give ladies the opportunity to explore the available recreation at Lake Dardanelle and the surrounding areas, by learning skills and knowledge that they need to enjoy nature. This workshop will be from 9 -11 AM. Registration is $30 per person, per class. Learn to use a compass and GPS. To register, call the visitor center at 479-967-5516.  

January 25: Writing In Nature with Local Author Ashlyn Ohm 

The park will host a local author from the heart of the Ouachita Mountains for this Writing in Nature Workshop. This workshop will teach you how to truly connect in nature among the forest and lakeside at Lake Catherine State Park. It will be about two hours long and will include experience writing your own pieces along the shores of Lake Catherine. Participants will meet at the Nature Cabin at 9 AM and will be hiking short sections of trails and the park.
