“It’s the pink building next to the tire shop,” is how I normally describe our little store over the phone. “Like really pink. Barbie basted in Pepto Sauce pink.”

As one who routinely writes stories about others, I find it hard to summarize what starting a business has been like. We began in the heyday of Covid. The banks denied my loan applications (apparently the firefighter income isn’t quite the financial flex one might believe it to be.) I had just 3,000 dollars saved for my start-up. I’d never worked in retail and had no idea what I was doing.

Yet, miraculously or magically, our once barely-filled racks now overflow. What I jokingly called “My Lemonade Stand” in the early months has withstood my ignorance, a shaky economy, and Covid lockdowns.

Without the employees who helped teach me how to own and run a business and without so much local support, this dream would have lived and died in a few fleeting months. I am thankful beyond words. Here’s to more years of helping you look your best in any era!

The RetroFit is located at 315 Ouachita Ave and is open daily at 10. It was named 2024 Best Clothing Store and 2023 Rainbow Business of the Year. Facebook: The Retro Fit
