Removing the Mask

By Peggy Lindsey
Growing up we were encouraged to seek out role models who we could imitate as we discovered our own talents. However, this continued even into adulthood as people strive to mirror the success and fame of those who have “made it” in the world. Eager to mimic others, we put on a mask of disguise, hiding our true identity.

Yet none of us were created to be the same. Each person possesses his/her own unique ideas, dreams, and talents. Trying to be someone we are not, or trying to conform and fit into the molds of others, robs us of our own voice, self-esteem, and sense of worth. We prevent our innate creativity and personal expression.

Those in their senior years often relay the importance of following one’s unique path after discovering this when it was almost too late. Shortly before his passing, my father gave me the greatest gift . . . the precious advice to be true to myself. Those treasured words gave me such a sense of freedom to really be me! No approvals necessary!

Being authentic opens the door to being seen and heard as you truly are. No more putting on a face to make others feel more comfortable. No more pretending.

It was Oscar Wilde who stated, “Be yourself. Everyone else is taken.” And knowing this now, it is time to remove the mask. It is time to be the star that you are and begin showing up just as you were created to be.Peggy Lindsey is a Professional Life Coach, Master Teacher of Arcing Light Energy Healing, and a Spiritual Mentor. Peggy’s passion is assisting women on their journey toward happy, healthy lives by empowering them to live more joyfully and consciously.
