Low Key Arts’ new online virtual chat/interview series, Movers and Makers, debuted in October 2020 and has been attracting viewers from all over the U.S. and beyond. Hosted by LKA Executive Director, Sonny Kay, the series presents in-depth conversations with artists, musicians, and instigators contributing to popular culture through their work and lifestyles, and investigates the paths each have taken in their respective careers.
Episode Five features special guest Robert “Bob Rob” Medina speaking live from his home in Abu Dhabi. Bob’s career in underground music and art stretches back four decades. He’s a prolific painter, printmaker, author, publisher, traveler, blogger, and provocateur who’s never short on inspiration, even while living and teaching in such authoritarian places as Egypt, Ethiopia, and currently, the United Arab Emirates. His colorful resumé is matched by his equally-colorful art and an insatiable desire to document life’s beauties and absurdities. This discussion takes place on Thursday, February 4 at 6:00 PM CST.
Episode Six features special guest Laurel Stearns, an independent artist manager and entrepreneur hailing from Los Angeles. Laurel has worked with a who’s-who of artists, including LCD Soundsystem, Descendents, Interpol, GWAR, Decemberists, Red Fang, Album Leaf, and US. Girls, to name only a few. She’s done A&R for Capitol Records, consults for the Adult Swim Music Festival, and contributes her time to Watts Community Core, bringing awareness to young people about career opportunities in the music industry.
