Flavor 101: Food Memories – Reprisal of Dec 2019

By Eve Victory
Last year, I shared the results of my class’ Food Prep assignment, wherein students compose a 12-line poem reprising their food memories. Given we are nearing the end of 2020, I think it even more appropriate to share their thoughts on how food has shaped their lives and left indelible impressions.

Though we will not all be able to share the holidays in the same way, remember to do all you can to reach out to family and friends. Take the time to text, to email, to share pictures – or even mail out Christmas cards.

Wishing you a merry and meaningful Christmas!

Food Memories
NPC Hospitality and Tourism Management Class 2020

Mama’s potato soup warming me when I didn’t feel well
Grandma’s sourdough reindeer-shaped cookies
Mom flipping pancakes faster than a circus juggler
While hash brown casserole oozes gooey cheese
Cranberry sauce’s tarty goodness
Sweet, sweet tea touches my soul
Sushi steals my heart with every bite
Eating is truly my hobby…
…but Christmas food is my favorite:
Hot biscuits rising to unheard-of heights
Sweet potatoes, just slightly roasted,
Shine without help from seasonings
Pecan and pumpkin and apple pie, oh my!
It isn’t a day to count your calories –
It’s a day to count your blessings.
