Finding Hope at Christmas

By Peggy Lindsey
Christmas is a magical time, and it seems even more important this year to fully embrace the wonder of the season. The holidays evoke all kinds of emotions . . . the memories of simpler times in our younger days, the losses of our loved ones, and the uncertainties that rise when in disquieting times. But even as we feel these things so deeply within, gazing at twinkling lights offers sweet delight.

For me, Christmas inspires hope. The songs of celebration and laughter, of peace and joy, instills in my heart the courage to keep going and not give up. What else can create optimism during Christmas . . .

Listen to your Heart. The very place where love resides, the heart leads us in ways that are for the greatest good. The heart’s wisdom bypasses the fears of the ego and creates peace in our choices often leading to joy.

Believe. Christmas is about believing in things that defy logic, inviting us to be childlike in our trust that we are loved and supported in every step of our journey. Our faith opens the doors for miracles to happen!

Say Yes! For many, the season is a hectic time with much to do. For others, it is a time of solitude. Yet, every year there are various opportunities to share your time and your talents with those less fortunate. Participating in activities that bring pleasure to others negates the possibilities of loneliness to settle in.

Contemplate the Christmas Tree. We decorate our homes, churches, offices, and towns with evergreens, reminding us that life is eternal. Unchanged from season to season, the evergreen’s message of hope is to persevere through adversity.

Carry On through Dark Times. Enduring the difficulties of this passing year has taught us to remain strong and to stay the course, sharing our love with others. The light is always brightest in the darkest hours.

So, as you light the candle of hope within you this Christmas, may your lives be blessed with quiet peace and great joy!
