Holiday Day at GC Library Promises Lots of Fun

By Paul Kagebein

The Garland County Library is hosting a plethora of holiday activities on Thursday, December 20th – call it the library’s annual “Holiday Day,” if you will. Patrons are encouraged to arrive at the festively-decorated biblioteca prior to 1:00 p.m. that day in order to participate in everything offered. Throughout the day, the library will be accepting donations of non-perishable foods, new toys, and new pet supplies that will be distributed to local charities.

The start time for the annual Andy and the Dandies holiday concert is 1:00 p.m. Andy and the Dandies is a group consisting of several talented library staff members – including well-trained keyboardist Andy Diggs, mariachi performer Jacob Flores, eclectic guitarist Tony Webb, and vigorous vocalist Jill Dryden.

A varied song list of classic and contemporary holiday tracks will be performed, and afterwards, patrons are welcome to join in for some always entertaining karaoke caroling. Free refreshments will be served.

Also at 1:00 p.m., the library is hosting a public “Ugly Sweater Contest.” Wear your most atrocious attire to impress (or disgust) your fellow attendees. A quick voting will take place after the performance, and the winner will receive a prize.

Finally, be sure to be back at 5:00 p.m. for the Gift Wrapping Party. The library will wrap gifts for free – and even supply the wrapping paper. You are also welcome to bring your own gifts and paper if you just want to enjoy the company of others and have a space away from the eyes of prying children and spouses.
