Tarot Mindset #3: Creating Affirmations

An affirmation is a written or spoken statement about a desired reality, expressed as though it is already true or stated as though it has already happened. For example, “My income increases daily whether I am playing, sleeping, or working.” Guidelines for creating affirmations:

  1. State affirmations positively, harnessing the power of “YES.” Avoid don’t, won’t, can’t, not, etc.
  1. Be concise. Use as few words as possible to express your desired outcome. For example, “I embrace change and abundance.” (WHEEL OF FORTUNE)
  1. Affirmations can help you remember the meaning of a Tarot card. Two separate Tarot book authors, Mary Greer and Angeles Arrien created affirmations corresponding with Major Arcana cards. Some examples: JUDGMENT: “I see myself with clarity and compassion.” The EMPEROR: “I am a trustworthy leader.” STRENGTH: “I value my strength and my kindness.” THE CHARIOT: I am in charge of my life and I direct it in constructive ways.” Each affirmation provides the essence of the card’s message.

A well-constructed affirmation aligns the thinker with the thought, making it more possible for that thought to come into reality. Psychologically, affirmations help reprogram a person’s beliefs, helping them think more realistically, feel better, or become more motivated. Words have the power to create positive self-fulfilling prophecies. As Bloody Mary sang in South Pacific, “You’ve got to have a dream, if you don’t have a dream, how you gonna have a dream come true?’
