Tarot: Guidance for 2020 & 2021

A Tarot reading for the Holiday Season delves into The Mind, The Body and The Spirit in this three-card reading

By Michelle Crandell
For many of us, the 2020 Holiday Season and the beginning of 2021 will be very different from what we have experienced in years gone by. Traditions and plans we have come to expect may need to be altered in the light of present realities. I am sharing a reading where I requested guidance for the Holiday Season and the beginning of 2021. I used MIND/BODY/SPIRIT as the template for this 3-card reading.

1. The Mind: What mindset(s) will be helpful in the next three months? KING OF RODS. This card advises us to practice these viewpoints during the next three months: “see the big picture” and “take the long view.” The King of Rods is a visionary who can accurately imagine the consequences of actions that were taken or not taken in 2020. His scope of awareness extends past personal interest: “me and mine,” and reminds us to think about the welfare of other people and consider the consequences of human activity on all creatures.

2. The Body: What should I address regarding my physical body, my home and/or my personal possessions? THE HANGED MAN. The Hanged Man is a Major Arcana card and therefore provides the most important guidance offered in this reading. The classic interpretation for the Hanged Man is Voluntary Sacrifice. This card means much more, though. The Hanged Man shows us the value of seeing everything from another point of view. Now is a time to reexamine what we believe is important: how we use our time, our energy, and our resources. In the next three months, ask: “If I was wise and loving toward my body, what would I do differently?” Ask, “How can I make my personal space a better place for me?” “What possessions am I attached to and is that attachment good to me and for me?’

This is a time to try new lifestyle practices, especially those that might be “out of my box.” The Hanged Man says, “The most loving gift you can give to anyone who cares about you is… YOU be OK.”

3. The Spirit: What does my soul, my spirit need at this time? FIVE OF RODS (reversed.) The Five of Rods represents strife and anxiety. The card shows five people, each of whom have energy, passion and drive, but they lack direction. As a consequence, they fight among themselves, cannot make positive progress and become fearful, frustrated and angry. Fortunately, this card is reversed in the reading, indicating the possibility of positive change. Following the guidance of the previous cards, positive direction for the next three months becomes clear. When a person takes action based on the long-term best interests of others and the world and uses energy to restore and improve personal health, anxiety and strife will diminish. Reassess what you think is important. By doing so, you will refocus your energy, put it into positive action and thereby feel less stressed and anxious. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year.
