Hot Springs Call Center and Evaluation Clinics Operational
The Hot Springs/Garland County COVID-19 Call Center is available at 501-760-4307, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, as a first line of triage in an effort not to overrun our hospitals. The main goal of the call center hotline is to assess individuals from Hot Springs and Garland County over the phone. After the assessment, operators will make recommendations based on the caller’s responses. The recommendations could be for the caller to stay at home, visit one of the area evaluation clinics or, as a last resort, visit an area hospital emergency room. Another option for a resident concerned about possible symptoms or exposure is to call their personal doctor or primary care provider.

Four drive-thru clinics throughout the city and county are already in operation but only serve to further evaluate those experiencing symptoms following the call center evaluation. There are currently no COVID-19 tests or swabs available at the evaluation centers. It is the goal that these centers will become an avenue for testing when our area receives the equipment needed to test locally for the coronavirus. When that occurs, the public will be made aware of this option. For updates and information regarding COVID-19 and the response in Hot Springs and Garland County, please continue to visit www.cityhs.net/covid-19.

As a reminder, public health officials continue to stress the importance of washing hands often, keeping social distance, staying home when sick and disinfecting surfaces often. For more information, visit http://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus.

STATEMENT FROM HOT SPRINGS MAYOR PAT MCCABE REGARDING COVID-19
Since well before the first case of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, was announced in our state, Hot Springs leaders were coordinating and planning our response should the pandemic reach our community. As testing continues and confirmed case counts rise, the early planning created a foundation that is allowing us to get a jump start on mitigation measures, such as the establishment of drive-thru evaluation clinics and the creation of a local hotline.

I am proud of how our City and County leadership has coordinated with our area hospital first-responder representatives. As a hospital administrator, I provide regular inputs and receive daily updates from various healthcare-related organizations. I can assure you that although this pandemic has introduced us to unique challenges, our local hospitals have emergency plans in place and are prepared for the unexpected. We cannot stress enough the importance of social distancing and handwashing practices.

The Board of Directors declared an emergency at our meeting on March 17. The City Manager has issued a written Proclamation of Emergency and has submitted to appropriate authorities. We will continue to stay abreast of all developments as we, together, weather this storm and see Hot Springs and our community partnerships come out on the other side stronger and more unified.

We urge our citizens to stay up to date with all the developments by visiting City of Hot Springs COVID-19. This webpage will be updated with official information as we receive notifications from the state authorities, city leaders and our task force initiatives.

Our first priority is the health and welfare of our residents, visitors, and employees. However, during this time, we also need to do all we can to support our local businesses. Our community has seen a tremendous influx of growth and small business successes, yet what lies ahead will challenge our tourism-dependent industries. We have been meeting with business owners, and it has already been a struggle for them and for their workforce. It will only get more challenging as we move forward, yet their will and determination remain strong.

HOT SPRINGS ANIMAL SERVICES
In response to the recommendations of the CDC, the lobby of the City of Hot Springs Animal Services will be closed to customers until further notice starting on Wednesday, March 18, 2020. Individuals interested in adopting or looking for lost pets can view the animals from the outside kennels or visit Facebook: Hot Springs Animal Services.

To adopt or reclaim pets, call Animal Services at 501-262-2091 for assistance. To fill out paperwork on adopted or reclaim animals, one person will be allowed in the lobby at a time. All other Animal Services business will be conducted as usual with precautions.

Tips from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Animals and COVID-19:
“In the United States, there is no evidence to suggest that any animals, including pets, livestock, or wildlife, might be a source of COVID-19 infection at this time. However, because all animals can carry germs that can make people sick, it’s always a good idea to practice healthy habits around pets and other animals.

• Wash your hands after handling animals, their food, waste, or supplies.
• Practice good pet hygiene and clean up after pets properly.
• Take pets to the veterinarian regularly and talk to your veterinarian if you have questions about your pet’s health.
For more information, visit CDC’s Healthy Pets, Healthy People Website: Healthy Pets, Healthy People

If you are sick with COVID-19 (either suspected or confirmed), you should restrict contact with pets and other animals, just like you would around other people. Although there have not been reports of pets or other animals becoming sick with COVID-19, it is still recommended that people sick with COVID-19 limit contact with animals until more information is known about the virus. This can help ensure both you and your animals stay healthy.

When possible, have another member of your household care for your animals while you are sick. Avoid contact with your pet including, petting, snuggling, being kissed or licked, and sharing food. If you must care for your pet or be around animals while you are sick, wash your hands before and after you interact with them. 3/17/20 RESCHEDULED
HOT SPRINGS AREA CULTURAL ALLIANCE
Arts & the Park
April 24-May 5, 2020    Rescheduled Sept 24-Oct 4, 2020
The Hot Springs Area Cultural Alliance has been closely monitoring the recommendations for the Center for Disease Control (CDC) as it impacts the upcoming Arts & The Park 10-day Celebration of the Arts in Hot Springs.  Based upon the recommendation that all events with an attendance of more than 50 people should be rescheduled, Arts & The Park, originally scheduled for April 24 – May 5, has been rescheduled for September 24 – October 4, 2020.

Ashley Campbell, HSACA Board Chair, states, “We are concerned about the health and well-being of all of those involved in Arts & the Park, those who attend events, volunteers, as well as the many artists and artisans that take part in the over 70 events planned for the 10-day festival. For that reason, we have made the decision to reschedule the festival until this fall.

“As originally planned the festival will begin with the outdoor arts festival the first weekend, Art Springs, feature a week filled with art activities, workshops, and performances and finish the second weekend with Gallery Walk and Studio Tours. We hope that all of the community partners with events planned during Arts & The Park will consider rescheduling their events to be a part of the fall Celebration of the Arts.” For more information about The Hot Springs Area Cultural Alliance or Arts & The Park, contact Mary Zunick at 501-545-6960 or email mzunick@hotsprings.org.

The Hot Springs Convention Center, including Bank OZK Arena, was closed to the public, effective 3/17/20, Tuesday evening, following recommendations from governmental and public-health officials regarding the coronavirus.

“We will evaluate the safety recommendations for the country on Monday, March 30,” he said. “All employees will be required to check-in with their supervisors at that time. If conditions have improved, we will bring all employees back to work on April 1. Our first responsibility is to our employees, their families and our clients. “This is a challenging situation for all of us and we want to do our part to prevent the spread of infectious disease,” said park superintendent Laura Miller. “We are modifying our program to better protect the health and safety of our staff and visitors. Bathhouse Row Emporium, located in the Lamar Bathhouse.

Other park partners and businesses along Bathhouse Row and at the Hot Springs Mountain Tower also are following guidance from the CDC. Visitors are encouraged to check with those businesses regarding possible updates to their services.

The health and safety of our visitors, employees, volunteers, and partners at Hot Springs National Park is our number one priority. The National Park Service (NPS) is working with the federal, state, and local authorities to closely monitor the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. We will notify the public when we resume full operations and provide updates on our website and social media channels.

The NPS urges visitors to do their part when visiting a park and to follow CDC guidance to prevent the spread of infectious diseases by maintaining a safe distance between yourself and other groups; washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth; covering your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze; and most importantly, staying home if you feel sick. For high-risk populations, such as the elderly and people with underlying conditions, we ask that they take extra caution and follow CDC guidance for those at higher risk of serious illness.

Updates about NPS operations will be posted on www.nps.gov/coronavirus. For more information and updates, visit our park website at www.nps.gov/hosp or follow us on social media.

HOT SPRINGS WORLD’S SHORTEST ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE
Hot Springs National Park
March 17, 2020      New Date TBA
The First Ever 17th Annual World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade, scheduled for Tuesday, March 17, in downtown Hot Springs, has been postponed, Visit Hot Springs CEO Steve Arrison announced Thursday afternoon.

“Because the safety of our citizens and visitors is always our primary concern, and because the spread of the coronavirus has become a concern to our health and governmental leaders, we decided this afternoon to postpone this year’s parade,” Arrison said. “We will announce a new date for the parade as soon as we can.

“Although the chance of spreading the virus among our parade fans and participants was considered low, we decided — after conferring with our city and county leaders and with health-care professionals — that we simply did not want to take a chance where the safety of our citizens and visitors is concerned.”

“We will begin planning immediately for the parade’s new date, and we will make it the biggest and best little parade in the world,” Arrison added. “We want our fans to stay well and plan to join us here in Hot Springs when we can select a new date.” For information, call Steve Arrison, 501-321-2027.

3/18/20 CLOSED
MID-AMERICA SCIENCE MUSEUM
500 Mid-America Blvd.
As we continue to monitor developments regarding COVID-19, I hope that you and your loved ones are healthy and safe. Our hearts go out to those impacted by the pandemic; and we are grateful for the healthcare workers and local leaders who are working to contain the outbreak. Like you, we have been staying current on the latest news on the Coronavirus situation and following recommendations from Governor Asa Hutchinson and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

As you may already know, Mid-America Science Museum is temporarily closed thru March 22. We will continue to assess this rapidly changing situation to determine when it is safe for the Museum to return to normal operations. We will continue to post updates on our website and social media.

In the meantime, I wanted to reach out and let you know about the steps that we are taking to ensure the health and safety of our visitors, staff and their families. The Museum has implemented the following precautionary activities:

  • Advanced cleaning protocols, such as increasing the number of times per day each area of the Museum is cleaned and disinfected including all exhibits, handrails, windows, doors, handles, restroom, all surfaces, etc. with CDC recommended disinfectants and aerosols.
  • Increased supply and placement of hand sanitizer stations throughout the Museum.
  • Posted information from the CDC for infection prevention, including regular hand washing with soap and water for 20 seconds, using a tissue when coughing or sneezing and avoiding close contact with anyone showing symptoms.
  • Daily communication with staff on best practices for staying healthy by washing hands regularly, using hand sanitizers, practicing social distancing, and staying home when not feeling well.

During this unprecedented time, we are working closely with our Board of Trustees to carefully manage our finances, and to support our staff and their families so that we can be ready to re-open and welcome you back to a healthy and safe Museum. We stand with you in these efforts and will continue to do all we can to ensure the safety and health of our employees, our community and Mid-America Science Museum.

P.S. Join us daily at 1:00pm CDT on Facebook Live for Un-Spring Break! Mid-America’s Science Education Team will be sharing science demonstrations and lessons for you and your family to enjoy together.

3/21/20 PICKUP & DELIVERY UPDATE!
SUPERIOR BATHHOUSE BREWERY
329 Central Avenue
In light of this rapidly changing situation, we have decided to Hunker Down. Superior Bathhouse Brewery will be closed to the public for an unspecified period of time. We believe this decision is the best for the protection of our community, and perhaps most importantly, the physical and mental well being of our employees who are putting themselves and their families at risk by being in contact with the public. Yesterday’s growler and pretzel delivery experiment went extremely well, and we will resume that early next week with a nifty schedule that will allow us to cover a very wide delivery radius.
Contact us here on Facebook if you have any questions and please stay in touch. We can’t wait to have a beer with you when all of this blows over… and it will! -Rose

3/17/20 CANCELLED
VALLEY OF THE VAPORS Independent Music Festival (the VOV)
118 Arbor Street
March 20-23, 2020
We regret very much to announce that Low Key Arts is canceling Valley of the Vapors 2020, as well as the remaining fundraiser and opening reception events. This is heartbreaking for us and something we feel is also completely unavoidable. It seems irresponsible to continue given the increasing severity of the situation ahead of us.

As difficult as it has been to make this decision, we would rather err on the side of caution than risk the health or well-being of our audience, not to mention the many incredible performers we bring to Hot Springs from around the world. To the bands intent on being here, please accept our most sincere apologies. To our sponsors, donors, and music lovers of Hot Springs and beyond, our gratitude for your support and belief in VOV is immeasurable. We look forward to celebrating our return with all of you next year.

3/17/20 OPEN
WILL’S CINNAMON SHOP
1001 Central Avenue
We all find ourselves in an unknown situation with this virus. To limit the spread of illness, until further notice, Will’s Cinnamon shop will be for PICKUP ONLY.
A few of our standard processes will be altered. Please note the following:

  • First, we will be STRONGLY ENCOURAGING pre-payment on all pre-orders. (This will significantly speed up the pickup process!!). You may still order through Facebook: Will’s Cinnamon Shop, please include a phone number so we may call for payment.
  • We will allow same-day ordering of any order of six or more rolls. Just call the shop at 501-538-4650‬ to place an order same-day. Please be mindful of the time you place the order and when you need it. Planning and calling ahead are always encouraged.
  • We will be operating in a car-hop style of business. You are encouraged to call orders in advance, but if you don’t, we will come to your car, take your order and take payment outside and bring your order to you. Please be cautious while driving in the parking lot, as there WILL be pedestrians, but we also ask you to be mindful of the time. If you are in a rush, please call ahead (WITH A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME TO PREPARE YOUR ORDER). This is NOT the time for you to call us and tell us you are on the way and it needs to be ready when you get there.
  • We would like to add a personal note: Please keep in mind small businesses are going to be very hard-hit during this time. Our focus is not to make a profit during this time, but to ensure rent is paid and our employees are paid. Small businesses run on very small margins. We appreciate your love and all your support over the years, and we will need you now more than ever. There was a meeting earlier today with a number of locally owned restaurant and business owners to put our community in as little risk as possible. You will soon see many of these other businesses be posting similar processes. We encourage you to still shop small and love local during this time. We all need it.

Remember. Be Kind. Wash your hands. If you don’t have to be out…stay home.     -Will & Katie
