Happiness Actions: Managing Stress: The Antidote to Overwhelm

By Christi Nation

“Don’t worry too much about how you are going to get it all done. Get started, learn as you go, and it will all come to you. Action creates momentum, and momentum energizes you to keep going.” – Averstu.com

In Three Steps to Overcoming Overwhelm Michelle Nickolaisen states, “Everyone hates overwhelm – it leaves you feeling stressed out and often mentally paralyzed (which just makes the overwhelm worse.)” For our Happiness Actions this month, she suggests the best things to do are:

  • Get it out of your head – Write down everything you are overwhelmed about.
  • Look at things objectively – Go over each item and ask yourself these three questions, “Is it true?” “Is this any different from last week or last month?” “Is there any other experience or circumstance affecting my viewpoint on this?”

Take action on at least one thing on the list even it is a small step. You will feel momentum once you have done that one action.

Consider taking a class to help with your stress and overwhelm and learn other skills to keep happiness in your life.

On the first Tuesdays of the month, I will be conducting a speaking series at the Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The first topic in the series on November 5th is “Managing Stress: The Antidote to Overwhelm.” The December session will be “Time Management: How Do I Get It All Done? “and January’s topic will be “Dealing with Difficult People: Why Are They Like That?

If you would like to sign up for the November 5th seminar and/or First Tuesdays of the Month series, email Christi.Nation@NationTrainingDevelopment.com.
